Hin Bus Depot Art Centre is the latest art centre in Penang (well, at least to me). I have read about art exhibitions and parties going on in this ex-bus depot and am curious to see what it has to offer. Situated near Komtar and behind Gama Departmental Store, the entrance is unassuming and one can easily miss it.
Once inside and sheltered from the sweltering heat though, the exhibition brings you away from the now to a world of conceptualization. It would have been nicer to have more display of art works, more in-depth narrative on Hin Bus Depot’s history, and further explanation on objectives, aims and spatial guide (in terms of direction and narration). I have not had the opportunity to attend its specially dated exhibitions (i.e. Urban Xchange happening in Nov 15th), but I believe that this building will eventually be filled with even more artworks from local artists and be curated with finesse. Even now, it already is a treasure trove of delights.
